Model Predictive Direct Self-Control for Six-Step Operation of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machines

The optimization of voltage utilization can boost electric drives' power and torque capabilities, which is particular interest in transportation applications. However, this a weak point most control approaches, like linear field-oriented (FOC) methods using standard modulation schemes. This paper introduces the model predictive direct self-control (MPDSC) strategy, modification (DSC) for its application digital implementation to achieve maximum (i.e., six-step operation) permanent magnet synchronous machines. solution suitable highly utilized machines with heavy magnetic (cross-)saturation low sampling fundamental frequency ratio. modifications include load angle regulation selected operating prediction compensate actuation delay. proposed system operation accurate robustness against disturbances parameter estimation inaccuracies. Comprehensive simulation experimental results demonstrate performance MPDSC while at constraint. In particular, transient rise time 2.3 ms torque, current reduction equal torque-speed up 18 %, increase amplitude 15 % compared conventional FOC have been empirically observed.
